President (General) Muhammadu Buhari

I congratulate you on becoming Nigeria’s 4th democratically elected presiden t after 3 previous attempts of trying to reach the most exalted position in Nigeria. It proves to me that persistence really pays and one shouldn’t give up on his dreams no matter how long it takes, if one is focused enough, he will achieve it.
I also want to thank your opponent Dr. Goodluck Ebere Jonathan for conceding defeat at the polls thereby listening to the voice of the masses, avoiding a highly predicted post election violence and letting peace reign in the process.
Yes you emerged victorious at the polls but it wasn’t really you who won. It was majority of Nigerians who despite being poor, oppressed and marginalized realized the power of coming together to take a common stance. It was the future of democracy in Nigeria that won. My friend on social media said, for the first time, its Nigeria first.
Dear General, now that you have won this election, what’s next? Hope we going to start seeing the change you and your team clamoured for.
There’s the notion that politicians shouldn’t be trusted. That they promise heaven and earth during the campaign in order to get into office and once they get elected into these offices which they campaigned for, they renege on the promises made earlier with the believe that the people have forgotten what they said earlier and they will vote them in again once they present some annoying gifts.
Oh! I just wanted to say Nigerians are now wiser and thanks to new and digital media, a simple Google search will bring back archives of the promises made.
Anyway, I want to believe the general is an honest man who will stand by the promises he made to Nigerians…. While I put my thoughts together, I’ll have to borrow the words of former vice president Atiku Abubarkar who for the first time expressed expressed himself just the way I would. Atiku says:
Dear GMB, the journey has just begun. Millions of Nigerians have put their trust in you, because they were not satisfied with the status quo. You represent the hope of a new generation of Nigerians, and you cannot afford to fail them. Our party has made a promise of change to our young people, to secure and rebuild our country, create jobs and opportunity, and improve citizens’ welfare. We will stand behind you to ensure we keep those promises, just like we did during these elections.
“Our country needs a new direction. We have voted for you, and our party won the election, but when you assume our highest office, you must become the president of not just the party, but all of Nigeria, including the people who did not vote for you. We look up to you to heal the fractures of our country, and truly unite this country like never before.
“To President Jonathan, I want to specially thank you for conducting a historic election. Your party may have lost the elections, but you have won the admiration of the world by not interfering with the wishes of Nigerians. History will be kind to you.
“It is my sincere hope that we will all come together as one country, to build the Nigeria of our dreams.
God bless Nigeria.”
