Humans of New York
is the most influential social media page in the world for me. Its main audience is on
Facebook
but the page has got a huge following on Instagram as well.
Brandon Stanton
, the guy behind this packed his bags from his California home and moved to New York armed with a camera. From where he began to capture real life stories of people on the streets of New York and his little hubby over time gained a lot of attention and recognition from major press. Today, Brandon has gone ahead to publish several bestsellers including a book titled
Little Humans.
In the 4th quarter of 2014, Brandon embarked on a U.N
sponsored trip to capture the stories of people living in distressed countries in Africa and Asia and it was such a huge success.
One day, Brandon met a very kind young boy named
Vidal
and his mum on the streets of New York and their little conversation lead back to Vidal’s school. This chance meeting between Brandon and Vidal led to one of the best charitable events I’ve ever seen.
Brandon and Vidal’s head mistress discussed and agreed to create a foundation to send pupils of the
MC-bridges high school
to yearly excursions to
Harvard and other Ivy league universities
so as to broaden their minds and give them an avenue to dream and work out their escape from the ghetto life.
The program raised over a million dollars in less than a week
to my surprise and enough funds to continue the program for more than 10 years. Of course it’s called the
Vidal scholarship fund
.

Barack Obama
was so impressed with the initiative he invited
Brandon and Vidal
and hosted them in his oval office and Brandon even had POTUS tell his story.
Brandon is a guy I’d love to meet one day on the streets of New York. ( Oh did I tell you that’s my favourite city? ) I love NY of course Lagos, Nigeria is where my heart is. Due to the huge impact Brandon and his HONY page is making, quite a lot of people have suggested the name be changed from Humans of New York to Humans of planet earth (HOPE) .
